The chronic pain cycle is a visual aid that enables people with Fibromyalgia and chronic pain to have an understanding on how pain can have a negative impact on other aspects of their lives.

Chronic pain can have a large impact upon an individuals health and life and it can also create significant worries regarding the future. Although there is medication available to help manage pain, if the focus is purely on pain then we are focusing on the least changeable aspect of the chronic pain cycle as this is the variable that we cannot directly control.

However, there are many aspects to the chronic pain cycle that are amenable to change and when the focus is shifted to these areas (with help), it enables the individual to begin to visualise how self management techniques can significantly improve quality of life.

Areas that are amenable to change are:

  • physical activity
  • Social activity
  • Mood
  • Sleep routine
  • Fitness
  • Muscle strength
  • Joint stiffness

During an initial assessment with us, we will talk in depth around how pain is affecting multiple areas of your life and what we can do to begin addressing this with a programme which is tailored to each individual.
